Refined Sugar and Candida Yeast

By

We have all heard about yeast infections or Candida albicans. We know that it can cause abnormalities in the body, and is very common in the 20th century, due to new medical technologies and changes in diet. But what really is Candida? Why is it so prominent now? Knowing the facts about Candida can help with preventative measures, as well as diagnosis.

What is Candida?

Candida is a yeast infection that occurs naturally in the human body. It is commonly called Candida albicans, and is an overgrowth of fungus. Candida lives in the body, but when the levels in the body are off, Candida tends to thrive and cause an infection. It has been a very common due to the fact that we have so many processed foods in our diet and medical innovations such as oral contraceptives and antibiotics. Having an overgrowth can result in many unpleasant symptoms such as fatigue, rash, anxiety, depression, and yeast infection. Treatments do exist in the form of anti fungal remedies, but one of the best ways to prevent Candida is by changing your eating habits.

What is refined sugar?

Refined sugar is a white crystalline solid disaccharide. Sucrose is commonly referred to as table sugar. Sugar comes across as sweet, and is used to altering the flavors of both food and beverages.

Why is refined sugar bad?

Refined sugar is bad for many reasons. Sugar feeds the Candida, giving it the ability to thrive and flourish in the human body. It encourages the growth of the yeast, and has no nutritional value.

How do I know if I have Candida?

You can ask some very basic questions to figure out if you have Candida or not. Do you experience fatigue? Do you crave bread, pasta, or sugar? Do you commonly have gas and bloating? Do you have food allergies? Some of these can be signs of having Candida. What other foods should I avoid?

  • Fruit ( dried, canned, frozen, or fresh)
  • Fruit juices
  • Yeast
  • Gluten
  • Vinegar
  • Mushrooms
  • Alcohol
  • Beverages that contain caffeine
  • Peanuts, pistachios, and peanut butter
  • Processed cheeses and meats

What foods are good for me?

  • All vegetables
  • Whole grains
  • Eggs
  • Avocados
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Oils

I want to live Candida-free. What is the best way?

Lead a healthy lifestyle is the best way to live free from Candida and its horrible effects. Have a balanced, low carb diet that shies away from processed food or refined sugar. Get plenty of exercise.
