The History of Female Sexual Arousal Disorder
By HelloLife
Sexual Arousal Disorder: General Definition
Sexual arousal disorder defined as the inability of an individual to adequately fulfill their sexual needs of satisfaction due to a physical or emotional impairment. This impairment can occur during any of the four stages of sexual arousal (excitement, plateau, orgasm, and resolution). Sexual arousal disorder is not gender specific, affecting men and women, but is typically associated with different classifications and names.
Sexual Arousal Disorder: General Causes
The exact cause/s of sexual arousal disorder have yet to be defined. There are several contributing factors associated with increased generation of the sexual arousal disorder condition. These contributing factors are both physical and psychological. This condition typically develops over time, but can be inherent upon birth. There are certain physical conditions that contribute to the development of sexual arousal disorder and a vast array of emotional conditions as well.
Sexual Arousal Disorder: General Symptoms
There are many symptoms associated with sexual arousal disorder, dependent upon the individual. All or none of these symptoms may be present in an individual with sexual arousal disorder.
- Loss of desire
- Inability to become aroused
- Intercourse pain
- Inability to relax vaginal muscles
- Inability to produce adequate lubrication
- Inability to orgasm/climax
- Infertility
Sexual Arousal Disorder: The Beginnings
The true beginnings of sexual arousal disorder are unknown, as it has only recently become clinically diagnosable. It is assumed that sexual arousal disorder has existed to some degree since the beginnings of man. Aphrodisiacs and natural methods such as vitamins, minerals, herbs, and spices were first utilized to treat the condition of sexual arousal disorder and are commonly used today.
Sexual Arousal Disorder: Therapy
The 1970s is noted as the development of the first therapies for sexual arousal disorder. Its primary goal was to relieve the stress associated with sexual activity through therapy and communication. It also focused on teaching couples sexual methods for increased pleasure. This is also noted as the beginning of attempts to provide emotional support for individuals with sexual arousal disorder. This therapy also encouraged the ideas of self arousal and masturbation.
Sexual Arousal Disorder: Medication Development
Prescribed and over-the-counter medications exist for the relief of signs and symptoms of sexual arousal disorder. The medications typically prescribed for sexual arousal disorder are determined by specific diagnoses and conditions, as other conditions only seem to contribute to this condition. It is also common to recommend natural methods for treatment of sexual arousal disorder before the use of medications.
Sexual Arousal Disorder: Development Overview
The prevalence of sexual arousal disorder has increased dramatically in the last thirty years. However, this is statistically insignificant to the history of the condition, because it is only within the last thirty years that treatment options have become readily available. The stigmas associated with sexual arousal disorder have also decreased dramatically due to education and the availability of knowledge on the subject. The fact remains that sexual arousal disorder exists, and has existed for a long time. However, there are individualized treatments available.
