Hormone Imbalance - How Do You Recognize the Symptoms?

By

One of the highest hormones in women is estrogen. When this hormone is reduced it can cause hormonal imbalance, resulting in a low libido or sexual desire. Other hormones in the woman's body are progesterone and testosterone. Testosterone is a hormone found in men, but is in much lower levels in women. Although hormones are in low levels through out the body, they affect each cell in the body. When the different hormones interact with each other, they can produce dramatic effects on the body.

Ovaries and Hormones

Your ovaries are what produce the hormones estrogen, testosterone and progesterone. The interaction between estrogen and progesterone is what coordinates the woman's menstrual cycle.

The Brain and Hormones

Follicle stimulating hormones, FSH, and the luteinizing hormone are produced by the brain. These hormones are what trigger the hormone production in your ovaries.

Hormonal Imbalance

An imbalance of hormones can occur in the brain, which will throw off the hormonal productions of the ovaries. This usually happens during puberty and menopause, but can occur at any age. When hormonal imbalances are developed, symptoms may arise.

Symptoms of Hormonal Imbalance

Every woman is different, so the symptoms of hormonal imbalance will vary from person to person. During puberty and menopause, you may notice that your body will go through changes, such as:

  • Bloating
  • Oily skin and acne
  • Excess facial and body hair
  • Hair loss
  • Memory lapses
  • Tender breasts
  • Weight gain
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Bone loss
  • Decreased fertility
  • Hot flashes
  • Loss of libido
  • Insomnia
  • Headaches
  • Wrinkles and age spots

Many of the symptoms resemble PMS. More serious symptoms or illnesses can occur as well:

  • Breast disease
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome or PCOS
  • Irregularities in your menstrual cycle

Some individuals may witness a weakened immune system, accelerated aging or increased risk of disease. PMS shows similar signs as hormonal imbalances because that's exactly what's happening. During your menstrual cycle, the hormones your brains produce interact with the estrogen levels in the body. So many women have already experienced most of these symptoms.

Causes of Hormonal Imbalance

The main cause of hormonal imbalance in women occurs when too many demands are put on their body without providing enough support. For instance, poor nutrition can play a role in this. Stress and toxins in the environment can also cause women to develop hormonal imbalances in their bodies. To help with hormonal imbalance, you should seek advice from a doctor. You should find ways to improve your dieting habits as well as your lifestyle. It may be as simple as eliminating a food or habit or developing new ones.

Is there Help for Hormonal Imbalance?

Lack of estrogen in the female body can cause hormonal imbalance. You can find ways to increase estrogen by talking with your doctor. Natural solutions are best when dealing with a hormonal imbalance. A decrease in sex drive may occur resulting in a low libido. Dealing with a low libido is best done with the help of an all natural product to avoid any unwanted side affects that a prescription product may give you.
