Having A Low Libido After A Miscarriage

By

Having a miscarriage is a grievous time in any potential parent's life. While a woman may physically heal from a miscarriage very quickly, crippling grief and feelings of loss after a miscarriage are common emotions and they may continue for a long time.

Miscarriages are very common. One in every four pregnancies ends in a miscarriage, usually within the first trimester (three months).Miscarriages are usually not the woman's fault.A miscarriage is a natural process the body undergoes if it cannot, at the time, support the fetus. Some women miscarry so early, they never even know they're pregnant.

Another very common emotional response to a miscarriage is a decrease in sexual desire. Some women become afraid that sex will result in another pregnancy or another miscarriage and find themselves too nervous to have intercourse.Other women want to avoid intercourse because it brings them painful memories of their failed conception. For whatever the libido decreases, it does not make you strange and you are doing nothing wrong.

Female Sexual Arousal Disorder refers either to:

  • a decline in libido
  • the inability to achieve physical arousal
  • the inability to orgasm.

FSAD is quite common and can be caused by many things other than a miscarriage.FSAD can be caused by menopause, hormonal shifts, anxiety, emotional trauma, vaginal infection or vaginal dryness.

FSAD can often lead to feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem.Prolonged FSAD can damage relationships.

In the event of FSAD, it is important to have a supportive partner. You should not feel as though you're being pressured or ridiculed for your lack of a sex drive. You deserve time and space to understand yourself and your feelings.

FSAD can oftentimes be helped by locating a good therapist. This is especially helpful in the event of a miscarriage, as a therapist can help you work out your negative feelings. This is also helpful instances where FSAD is caused by anxiety over sex, which is common among women who have suffered sexual trauma or violence, and also in women who experience guilt when confronting their sexuality.

Many women also try herbal supplements, specifically designed to promote sexual health and performance, as well as emotional support when dealing with sexuality.

With time, good health and empathy, most women can return to an active, healthy, satisfying sex life.
