Female sexual arousal disorder is a type of sexual dysfunction in women that interferes with the achievement of pleasure associated with any of the four stages of sexual response cycle. Often, female sexual arousal disorder is associated with the inability to become sexually aroused, but can also be related to decreases in sexual desire, lack of pleasure from sexual contact, the inability to achieve orgasm, or dyspareunia (pain associated with vaginal penetration).

There is no one cause for the development of female sexual arousal disorder. Rather, the development is usually caused a combination of many factors that are hormonal, physical, psychological, and social.

  • Hormonal: The hormone levels in your body can contribute to female sexual arousal disorder. When estrogen is low, it can lead to decreases in sexual responsiveness and change your actual genital tissues.
  • Physical: There are many diseases and conditions that cause female sexual arousal disorder as a common side effect. The use of certain medications can also contribute to its development.
  • Psychological: Many of these factors can cause or contribute to the development of sexual dysfunctions. Emotions play a critical role in sexual health. Therefore, your overall emotional health is essential to your overall sexual health.
  • Social: Certain social factors can also contribute to the development of sexual arousal disorder. Commonly, social interactions throughout life determine our own views on sexuality, which may be hindering your sexual desire and intimacy. Also, social interaction with your partner is important, particularly the establishment of an open and honest line of communication in regards to sex.

What are the Natural Treatment Options?

There are many natural treatment options for female sexual arousal disorder. These options include sensual massage, changing of sexual positions, use of certain lubrications to moisten genital areas and vagina, pelvic muscle exercises (Kegel), open communication with your partner, counseling with a sex therapist, or use of certain erotic materials (books, videos, magazines).
