Hypnosis for Weight Loss
By HelloLife
Getting hypnotized to lose weight might sound like a bit of a stretch. But according to a woman named Marion Corns, it was just the thing to get her on the right track. So far, Corns has lost 55 pounds after her multiple hypnosis sessions at the Elite Clinic in Spain.
Over the course of her hypnotic treatment, Corns was given to believe that she had undergone gastric band surgery. Because of that new belief, Corns is now able to lose weight very quickly.
"I've tried every other diet and exercise plan the world has to offer," Corns said. "Now I am able to shed up to three pounds a week because I believe I've had a band fitted into my stomach. Bizarrely, I can remember every part of the 'procedure' - including being wheeled into theatre, the clink of the surgeon's knife and even the smell of the anesthetic."
The point of the therapy was to introduce Corns to gastric band surgery, and familiarize her with the procedure and components. During the hypnosis itself, she was encouraged to touch the band, while experiencing the recorded sounds and simulated smells of an operating room. All while a therapist spoke aloud the details of the gastric band surgery.
Immediately following her first hypnosis session, Corns began to lose pounds. Now that the process is complete, she is simply incapable of consuming large amounts of food. She says that there is a distinct pulling and stretching sensation in her stomach, as if there was an actual band constricting her stomach. While hypnosis may be a favorable alternative to the invasive surgeries many people undergo to lose weight, it does pose certain risks that concern health professionals. Jacqui Lowdon of the British Dietary Association expressed a worry that people who look to hypnosis rather than physical surgery will not get the after care they need.
"If this works and people can achieve the same kind of weight loss without surgery, it is important they are getting the correct dietary advice as well. It is also important to have a target weight and to know what your ideal weight is."
The Mayo Clinic is of the opinion that, although hypnosis for the purpose of weight loss may work in conjunction with diet and exercise, there is not enough solid research about the method to rank it as a leading means of weight loss. On their website, the clinic states that the many studies conducted to analyze hypnosis for weight loss resulted in an average loss of about six pounds. Additionally, the Mayo Clinic questions the credibility of some of these studies. While the rest of the world may not know what to make of Marion Corns' weight loss, her story surely is a testament to the inner workings of the human mind. C
an the mind really tell the difference between "reality", and what we tell it is "reality"? Well, that's a topic for an entirely different article. The bottom line? Hypnosis works for Marion, and that's all that really matters to her. We wish her all the success in the world!
