Healthy Diets: Eat 5 Meals A Day & Lose Weight

By

5 meals a day and lose weight? How is that possible?

It is very possible to lose extra weight if you follow a balanced, diet plan. A lot of "crash" or "fad" diets today deprive the body of food, and therefore certain nutrients are omitted and your body suffers for it. Eating 5 meals a day is proven to have a better effect on your body that having 3 "square" meals a day. You dieting should be focused on portion control. Your meals should be small and nutritionally balanced. To keep your portions, make sure that you never supersize, avoid buffets or "all you can eat" type deals, and learn about different serving sizes. A serving size is a measured unit of food, and can be "eyeballed" once the proper amount is identified. Portion size in relation to eating regularly is very important. Eat enough to satisfy you, but don't ever go to that "stuffed" feeling.

Why is eating 5 meals better than 3 meals?

Eating 5 small meals a day continuously feeds your metabolism, keeping it receiving nutrients on a continual basis. Combine with regular exercise, plenty of sleep, and lots of water for optimal results. Why should I eat frequently?

  • Curbs hunger pangs
  • Curbs overeating
  • Your metabolism works better
  • Maintains your energy levels

What is the link between disease and diet?

Disease and diet go hand in hand. Seafood is rich in fat-soluble vitamins and minerals. Vegetables are filled with nutrients. If your body is receiving all of the proper nutrients, it has a better chance of fighting off disease and maintaining a strong immune system. What should I avoid in my diet?

  • Limit cholesterol.
  • Limit unhealthy fats.
  • Limit salt.
  • Eat more fruits and vegetables.
  • Choose protein that is low-fat.
  • Choose whole grains.
  • Stay away from empty calories!
  • Everything in moderation!

Having a well, balanced healthy diet is the key to optimal performance. If 5-6 small meals works for you, that's great. If not, find something that does. Your overall health and wellness is the most important factor, and you need to find something that will work for you over the long run, not just another "fad" diet to carry you through the week.
