There has been some concern about clumping litter causing a slimy coating in the intestines and thus creating poor digestion and colon health. From a holistic perspective, it is thought that an unhealthy colon can lead to bladder problems. Sometimes a cat can become allergic to its litter. The resulting dampness in the body due to allergies can yield to infection. That being said, infection is not directly caused by litter - only indirectly. However, if the litter is not changed frequently, the cat can begin avoiding the box and holding its urine longer which can lead to infection. I prefer to use a clay based litter without additives and I clean the box frequently. If you have already developed some problems, you might want to try our homeopathic product H2O-IonX to see if it helps to improve the general health of the cat.
