Vaginal Yeast Infection: Natural Treatment Options For Candida Albicans

By

As controversy swirls about the potential dangers of antifungal creams, many women are exploring natural treatment options for candida albicans. There are many home remedies that have been used for years to treat vaginal yeast infections, and you may just find the right one for you.

Recommended Natural Treatments

Man women have reported the success of the following remedies against candida albicans:
  • Curds or yogurt are considered the best home remedies for yeast infections. You can soak a tampon in the yogurt and then insert in the vagina for at least an hour; yogurt applied topically to the vaginal area may also have a positive effect.
  • A tonic of olive leaf extract and grapefruit seed extraction in a glass of water may be healing.
  • Tea tree oil applied topically to the vaginal area has been shown effective.
  • Crush garlic cloves into a paste and apply topically to the vagina. It may sting at first, but it can be very helpful.
  • Dilute apple cider vinegar with water and apply it topically to the vagina
  • Whether infected or not, drink 2 glasses of buttermilk away to establish a healthy curd and reduce the chances of future yeast infections.
  • Insert a Boric acid capsule into the vagina and keep it in overnight. It may cause burning and discomfort but it should eventually calm the infection.

Anti-Fungal Herbs

Many herbs also have yeast-conquering properties:
  • Calendula
  • Goldenseal
  • Rosemary
  • Cedar
  • Myrrh
You can make a strong infusion of these herbs and then use internally as a douche or externally in a soaked pad.

Immune System Support

Eat plenty of nutrient- rich vegetables to support your immune system. Echinacea is also known to boost the immune system during yeast infections.

Pro-Biotic Support

Just as live yogurt cultures boost the friendly bacteria that fight candida, you can take an oral or suppository supplement of Lactobacillus acidophilus to boost friendly bacteria.

Dietary Changes

Your diet may play a large role in the natural treatment of vaginal yeast infections. Foods you should incorporate into your diet include:
  • Fresh vegetables
  • Fish and poultry
  • Essential fatty acids like flax seed oil, olive oil, and nuts
  • Drink lots of water
  • Whole grains
Stay away from foods that will promote yeast growth, such as:
  • Alcohol
  • Animal fats
  • Caffeine
  • Fast food and junk food
  • Processed foods
  • Hydrogenated oils (margarine)
  • Refined Sugars
  • Fruits with high sugar content
  • Wheat products
  • White flour products
