If I have gout, what else might I have? Is gout linked to other diseases?

Good question. A lot of people, even doctors, do not realize this, but a person with gout is at higher risk for:

    •Hypertension •Type II diabetes •Metabolic syndrome •Heart attacks •Strokes •Kidney problems

Also - the more episodes of gout you develop, the more likely it is that you can develop chronic problems in your joints from slow destruction of your joints surfaces. If you have a history of gout, it is important that you improve your diet and exercise, that you get to a healthy weight and that you make sure your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels are under control.
