Prescription Drugs Linked to Erectile Dysfunction

By

There are many drugs, whether they are prescribed by a doctor or purchased over-the-counter, that are being used for diseases and illnesses that disrupt your daily life. The presence of certain conditions is commonly cause for the development of other conditions. One such condition that is typically caused as a side effect of other conditions is erectile dysfunction.

Natural Causes of Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction can be caused from more natural causes such as diabetes, previous prostate surgery, having a chronic health condition and age.

Medications that Can Cause Erectile Dysfunction

There are more than 200 medications that have a side effect of erectile dysfunction. Some of their common uses include:

  • Blood pressure and water pills
  • Anti-anxiety and seizure reducing medications
  • Antihistamines, allergy relief
  • Anti-inflammatory drugs that are non-steroidal
  • Muscle relaxers
  • Tranquilizers
  • Appetite suppressants

Mixing any of those medications listed above, with other illegal drugs and alcohol increase the risk of erectile dysfunction. Over time, if drugs are being mixed, erectile dysfunction can potentially become permanent.

What You Can Do

It is important that if you experience erectile dysfunction that you consult your physician. Make sure to make note of when you experienced the problem, that way it is easier to pinpoint which medication is causing the problem. However, prescription medications that treat erectile dysfunction may not be the answer to the problem. Some medications cannot be mixed, that is why it is important to tell a physician the exact problem and your suspicion that it is being caused from other medications. Prescription drugs can be very expensive, so ask your doctor questions. It is important to ask your doctor the common side effects of a drug before getting a prescription for it. It is also important that when buying over-the-counter drugs to read the health information label on the back. If it sounds unfavorable, search for an alternative, such as a natural supplement. Herbal supplements including ginseng and propionyl-L-carnitine are known to improve stamina, sexual arousal and increase blood flow throughout the body. They are also important to consult your doctor about, because they could be an alternative to the problem of erectile dysfunction.
