HelloLife GuestHello! I would like to know what kinds of foods are good for me to eat. I have Lupus, and I am not sure of the foods that make my Lupus flare up.

Jessica Corwin, RDThankyou for your question! While there is not a specific diet prescribed for Lupus, basic diet recommendations are advised.
The best advice is to do your best to follow a healthy and balanced diet filled with nutrient-rich whole foods including whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, seeds, and limited animal/fish protein. The goal is to eat a diet packed with inflammation reducing antioxidants because the inflammation induced by lupus is already causing damage within your body and placing you at an increased risk for heart disease. Because the omega-3 fatty acids found in fatty fish, walnuts, and flax seeds are all-stars when it comes to reducing inflammation, these are all encouraged as a part of your diet.
Each person may experience flare-ups due to unique foods, alfa-alfa is one food that has been consistently found to induce them.
Please let me know what other questions you may have!
In good health,
Jessica
