A Brief Look At How To Prevent High Blood Pressure

By

Preventing High Blood Pressure

Many of the ways you can learn to prevent high blood pressure are just plain, old-fashioned common sense. If you're overweight, your body will need to move more blood around your system to accommodate all the tissue requiring nutrients. By being more physically active you can get rid of some of this weight and strengthen your heart and lungs at the same time.

The Foods you Eat

The foods you eat and the quantities you eat them in, will also have an effect on the chances of you developing high blood pressure. If you like to have a few drinks from time to time, always make sure you do it in moderation to keep your body in as good a shape as possible. These methods are also generally good to follow to help prevent high blood pressure from developing in the first place. It also just makes sense if you smoke, to quit. Even though high blood pressure isn't directly caused by smoking cigarettes, smoking will almost certainly increase the risk of developing heart conditions.

Weight Loss

Even if you only end up losing a small amount of weight, this will help to lower your high blood pressure and keep you healthier. For those people at risk of high blood pressure, keeping the weight under control will help to prevent hypertension from developing. Having too much excess weight can increase your risks of developing high blood pressure by up to six times the normal rate. The way to lose weight is to make your body burn more calories than it's taking in. Try to go for the weight loss routines that take off a small and steady amount of weight over a longer period of time. This will have the effect of strengthening your heart and lungs while you exercise away the weight. Your body will also have time to become accustomed to the weight loss. Some people who try to lose the weight too quickly have trouble with skin elasticity and internal organ movement. It's best to allow your body to become used to the weight loss gradually.

Cut Salt out of your Diet

A simple thing like cutting back on the salt that your body takes in in the run of a week can mean the difference between keeping your blood pressure at a normal rate and having it escalate over time. Too many people consume far too much salt (sodium) in their diet, and many of them may not even realize that they are overdoing it. Most of the packaged foods we eat, even the ones that don't taste "salty", contain more than what the daily recommendation is. This accumulates in your body and can have a marked effect on your blood pressure. Try to check the labels of the foods you eat and pick the ones that have the lower amounts of sodium (salt) in them.

Fresh Foods

Fresh vegetables are always much better for you than canned or frozen, although the products with "no salt added" are fine to choose if fresh vegetables aren't readily available. The same advice goes for fresh meat and fish rather than anything canned or processed. It's a good idea to get in the habit of using spices and herbs rather than salt to flavor your food. If you drink alcoholic beverages, try making it a habit of drinking in moderation in order to keep your blood pressure at a normal level. http://healthlink.mcw.edu/article/922288104.html
