5 Great Ways to Lower Blood Pressure Quickly
By HelloLife
People who have high blood pressure sometimes can't manage the condition with medication alone. Because having prolonged periods of high blood pressure can lead to more serious health complications such as kidney and heart conditions, it's important to try and get blood pressure levels under control. There are natural methods for gaining the upper hand in controlling this health condition and they can be easily made a part of your daily routine.
Tip 1:
It's been known for a few years now that having a small piece of dark chocolate everyday can help to make subtle changes in the way blood vessels dilate, which encourages a more normal level of blood pressure. The high cocoa content in dark chocolate brings with it a higher antioxidant level for the body that allows the blood to flow more freely, carrying the oxygen-rich blood to all the areas of the body.
Dark chocolate also contains special enhancers called flavonoids in a quantity even higher than green tea and blueberries - two flavonoid-rich foods. Eating too much chocolate isn't good for you though due to its high caloric content. The higher percentage of cocoa the dark chocolate has, the better it is for you. The higher the amount of cocoa, the more bitter the dark chocolate is so try several kinds to find one you like. Who would've thought that having a treat like dark chocolate everyday would be good for you in the long run?
Tip 2:
A diet rich in potassium can also have a positive effect on blood pressure levels. The best method of getting enough potassium in your diet is through eating the proper foods. Some of the best foods to eat for good potassium intake are apple juice, avocado, bananas, beans, cantaloupe, carrots and sweet potatoes. Other foods such as salmon and sardines also have a good amount of omega 3 fatty acids that are especially good for your health.
Tip 3:
Water is one of the best and easiest ways to keep your blood pressure low. When the body begins to get dehydrated it may try to retain moisture by storing salt. Without water coursing through the body's organs, blood pressure rises. Drinking a good supply of water is one of the best ways to lower blood pressure levels. Drinking a lot of water everyday can keep your body working much more efficiently and keep your blood pressure lowered at the same time.
Tip 4:
A simple thing like learning to take the time to take long and slow breaths can mean a lot to the way your blood pressure normalizes. All it takes is a few minutes every day with long and slow breathing of less than ten breaths per minute. This fills the lungs up with oxygen, which the body puts to immediate use to lower your blood pressure. Too many people breathe in shallow patterns that don't really get as much oxygen into the body.
Tip 5:
You already know this without being told, but if you're not getting enough exercise, your body will suffer for it. Not just with excess weight but also with poor circulation and body development as well. Taking the time to get even a few minutes of exercise every day will do a lot to lower your blood pressure.

A nice way to combine all of the 5 tips would be to eat a dark chocolate covered banana while drinking water and doing yoga.
