Meditate to Open the Heart

By

Many sources suggest meditation is beneficial to our lives and our overall health and well being. Meditation is a practice that allows you to turn within, distancing you from the stress in your mind, body and life, rather than constantly being enveloped and controlled by outside factors. Meditation can help you focus on creating the life you want, instead of simply reacting to the events in your life after they happen.

Meditating to open the heart is a simple path you can take toward acceptance of things as they are and being open to others and the hidden blessings of life. This meditation can be practiced every morning in a short amount of time to center yourself, open your awareness in a positive way, and create an intention for the day.

Start by sitting in a quiet safe place and focus on your breathing. You should be comfortable, but not comfortable enough that you may fall asleep. Relax and allow the breath to flow naturally, in and out. Begin by focusing your breathing toward the area of the heart. This brings your mental focus as well as your breathing focus into the heart area behind your breast bone. Take ten minutes to sit and focus your heart breathing while you allow yourself to experience the feelings that arise when you allow your heart to be open and activated by your breath.

You may experience a variety of feelings and emotions during the breathing meditation. Because you are breathing, the meditation is active and the consciousness of your feelings may wash over you in waves. You may feel excited, or relaxed. You may start to feel sad, and that is okay too. Allow yourself to feel the emotions and then let your breath cleanse your heart of the feelings and allow them to wash away. When you release those feelings your heart will be left feeling open, peaceful and energized.

When you practice this meditation on a daily basis, you will find that you feel lighter, happier and more open to the universe. You can deepen your meditative practice over time as you experience feelings of joy and elation through your practice and the day. As your heart becomes free and cleansed, your spirit will soar. Focusing on your heart through meditation allows the tightness with which the body holds the emotions to relax, and your mind and body can become freer.

Meditation can be a difficult concept to grasp, as it is nearly impossible to free your mind from everyday thoughts, at first. This heart meditation is an excellent tool to practice focus and relaxation with a particular goal in mind. By breathing into and freeing your heart, your mind, body and soul will follow. Then you will have found a natural path to greater health and well being.
