Winter Beauty Product Review

By
From the Looking Good Blog Series

In yet another quest to perfect my beauty regimen (or to simply find products that make me look and feel my best), I have experimented once more with a line-up of products. The only good thing I can say is that with age, my purchases, and gambles, have become less costly.

For example, when I was younger and would go to the salon for a haircut and color, it didn’t take much for the cosmetologist to talk me into a new hair brush, new shampoo and hair-straightening gel. A $100 bill could easily become nearly $200, and I don’t recall even one of the products helping me manage my voluminous head of baby-fine hair.

Now, I tend to forego the hair salons and stick to my local drug store when I have the urge to try a new product.

LOVE IT! Aveeno's Nourish Line of Shampoo and Condition - Review

My latest find is the Aveeno product line of shampoos and conditioners. Each bottle costs less than $10, so the selections are affordable. Moreover, I’ve never experienced such moisture-rich conditioner as the Nourish/Moisture pick from Aveeno.

My hair tends to be on the dry side, and this conditioner works wonders for it. I’m also prone to split-ends, but since using the Aveeno shampoo and conditioner, I’ve seen none. I highly recommend these choices for anyone who wants great hair at reasonable prices.

DON'T BOTHER. Kenra Curl Glaze Mousse - Review

One product I can’t be as positive about is Kenra Curl Glaze Mousse. The girl who cuts my hair talked me into buying this although I had my doubts (does this scenario sound familiar?). I have wavy hair that is neither curly nor straight.

She promised this product would give me luscious, bouncy curls without having to touch a curling iron or blow dryer. And I only spent $13 on it, so I didn’t feel like I was talked into spending a fortune.

To make a long story short, however, my cosmetologist was wrong.

The mousse is really easy to use, but all it did was turn my waves into crunchy, greasy strands. I used it for a week before giving up, and I’m back to letting my hair dry naturally with no product at all. It’s just easier that way.

LOVE IT! Curel's Ultra Healing Lotion - Review

For anyone out there who suffers “alligator” skin during the cold weather months, I finally have found a lotion therapy that works.

It’s Curel, and while the company makes several different lotion varieties for all skin types, I cannot rave enough about the Ultra Healing selection. It’s thick without being greasy, and my skin feels amazing after I put it on. If I shower in the morning, I still feel soft and moisturized that evening. No more tightness around my shoulders and in my shins, where my skin tends to be driest while flaking in the winter.

And like Aveeno, Curel is very affordable, with $1 off coupons available at the www.curel.com website.

LOVE IT! Bath and Body Works' Pink Sugarplum Shower Gel and Body Spray - Review

And for the dreary winter months that seem to last forever, I have found a great pick-me-up.

Every year, Bath & Body Works introduces a line of holiday scents in their lotions/body sprays collections.

My favorite scent this year is Pink Sugarplum, which has a deliciously light and fruity smell. It’s sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. My spirits lift whenever I use the shower gel, and the body spray lasts all day so I catch whiffs of it even in a chilly wind.

If you’re looking for something to combat the gray-sky blues, Pink Sugarplum is an easy and inexpensive solution.
