Kick Junk Food Addiction, Lose Weight with Detoxification

By

Scientists recently discovered that when people eat large amounts of junk or processed food, changes actually take place in the brain. Junk food can be addictive just like heroin or nicotine, and it can be just as difficult to beat the habit. Still, there is good news. Just as an addiction to drugs and nicotine can be broken, so can the addiction to junk food. In fact, getting off junk food is even easier than breaking some other bad habits.

To get started, detoxify your body to remove particles and remnants of the addictive substances that are still lingering in your body. Detoxification is the key to kicking the habit, because lingering leftovers will cause cravings that lead to repeating bad habits. This means that if you are used to eating pizza and fries, you will crave these items because the food particles from past meals are still in your body. When you remove them, you can end cravings and feel empowered to choose healthy, whole foods. Fortunately, detoxification is a relatively painless process that can help return your body to its natural state and aid your release from a chemical addiction.

After a detox, cravings for junk food, processed food, and even meat products tend to disappear. It is common for people who have deeply detoxified to switch to a pure, natural diet. Natural food such as vegetables, fruits and whole grains will suddenly start tasting much better to the recently detoxified taste buds. Deep detoxification can be achieved in several different ways, but the most common is also the simplest and easiest: Spend four or five days drinking only large quantities of freshly squeezed juices, which you can quickly make with a juicer. An inexpensive recipe is to combine carrots, parsley, apples and beets together in a juicer, after scrubbing away any surface contaminants (pesticides, wax coating, etc), and enjoy whole fibrous veggies as a powerful cleansing juice. During your detox, you can boost your body's cleansing with enemas at home or colon hydrotherapy with a qualified practitioner. Remember to replenish your healthy micro flora by taking probiotics (either in a supplement or in fermented foods such as kombucha). The first deep detox may not completely clean you, but it should reduce or completely eliminate your cravings for processed foods.

Over time, you can repeat the deep detoxification cycle and fully cleanse your body of decades of chemical waste buildup. After each body detox, you can take the opportunity to retrain your habits. While your initial response will to be to desire natural foods, habits that are engrained in your psyche may cause you to inadvertently return to your old ways. Train your mind and emotions to desire and seek out those natural, whole, healthy foods that nourish your body, mind and spirit. Natural, whole foods can be purchased from your local farmer's market, most grocery stores or online, if the availability in your area is limited. Try new foods, learn new recipes, and join a group of likeminded people who will be able to offer you support for your new healthy life path. Often times you can use the Internet to connect with groups, if you're not sure where to start. Look on social networking sites like Meetup.com to find people who are looking for the same things you are. Making small good decisions on a daily basis and pairing it with a detoxifying experience should garner great health benefits for you and your family that will last longer than the latest fad diet, and have positive effects that will last a lifetime!

Great post! I know I'm probably beginning to sound like a broken record, but I highly recommend the documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead to discover the benefits of juicing! I'm thinking of doing a juice fast/detox sometime in the next few months...I'll let you know how it goes :)
