Diet Pills: How Much Do They Help?

By

You may have seen many different types of infomercials and ads showcasing dietary pills that promise to help you keep your New Year's Resolution to lose weight. But if you look closer to the screen, you will find very small writing at the bottom of the ad that tells you the truth. For the pills to actually work, you have to maintain a healthy lifestyle that consists of eating the right foods and exercising. Now, this isn't the problem, it's the fact that most companies feel they need to hide this. Any business that sells a product and isn't upfront with all of its features isn't one to be trusted.

How Do Diet Pills Work?

There are different types of dietary pills out there that claim to help you lose weight. The ones that do work use different methods of helping you lose weight. There are many varieties of weight loss pills, some prescription, some natural dietary supplements.

Prescribed Hunger Reducers

One type of diet pill medication out there is the hunger reducer. This type of pill works by controlling the appetite section of your brain and makes you feel full. Those who find it hard to say no to food and constantly overeat are the ones who can benefit most. If you are heavily overweight, this is a great option, but if you are just several pounds overweight, it may be too subtle and strong. Sometimes, people find that other prescriptions work for them that are aimed to help other maladies such as depression, seizures and diabetes. Most of these pills are only prescribed for a short period of time, but some doctors prescribe them long term. A few, but very serious, side effects may occur when taking such pills:

  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Irritability
  • Nervousness

Fat Blocker

This type of diet pill is used to prevent fat from completely absorbing into the gastrointestinal tract. Prescribed medications usually range about 120 mg while over the counter pills are half their strength. Fat blockers are great for individuals who have slow metabolisms. Overeaters can also greatly benefit from them.

What you have to do to make the Diet Pills Work

When taking the diet pills, it is necessary to combine the strategy with eating right and exercising regularly. This will boost your chances of losing weight more efficiently. No diet pills, whether prescribed or over the counter, will ever miraculously shed pounds off of your body without additional help.

Who Can Use Diet Pills?

When prescribed by the doctor, they will look at factors of the individual such as, their health condition and lifestyle. If you are living a healthy lifestyle and still nothing is happening, they will prescribe medications to help you lose weight. The healthy amount of weight to lose each week is between one to two pounds. Diet pills are for overweight individuals who are or close to obese. Overeating can be a habit that's hard to break, so having a little help while you try to change can show results. And those who have slow metabolisms can help speed it up with diet pills. Eating a healthy breakfast in the morning can also help speed up your metabolism.
