Bri Luginbill posted the blog [The Kibble] PetCo Being Sued for Supposedly Cutting a Dogs Ear Off.
A PetCo in Hawaii is being sued by two owners that claim their dog's ear was cut off and then glued back together. Apparently the dog also had other problems while it was being groomed as well, including the tip of it's tail being cut off and it's overall coat looking disheveled...

A Petco groomer in Hawaii is being sued - for allegedly cutting off a dog's ear and trying to fix it with GLUE. O.o This is just...all sorts of wrong.

Bri Luginbill posted the blog [The Kibble] Cropping of Dogs' Ears Banned.
A new ban has taken place in Manitoba and Newfoundland, Canada. Dog owners can no longer crop their dog's ears. This is making animal health professionals happy because the procedure can cause the dog a lot of pain. But it is making breeders upset. What's your take on this ban?

  I totally agree Seth! It's a painful thing to go through and I've seen dogs that have had botched ear cropping jobs. The tail is even worse though and I imagine terribly painful. People try to do tail cropping at home too with a string tied tighter and tighter at the base of the tail, just cruel. Dog's also use their tails to communicate with the world and this takes that away.2/14

  John, I worked at a vet and was there when they did a tail cropping. Next time one came up, I had to leave the building. Seriously, a dab of local anesthetic, then they basically lop it off with a tin snips! Screaming, wailing, blood everywhere... I told the office manager that I either had to leave or not be scheduled when those were going to happen.
  
  Of course, declawing cats is really no different. They just cut the last knuckle off. Imagine that being done to us?! 2/14

  This reminds me somewhat of an article in National Geographic from last year about breeding foxes as pets. Scientists in Russia have been breeding together foxes that have nice/friendly characteristics - and interestingly, dog-like physical traits have followed from that: wagging tails and floppy ears, for example. (Note that they did not breed together foxes that already had floppy ears - this trait followed naturally by selecting for a nice personality.)
  
  So, really, to dock tails and crop ears is to take away the traits that make dogs man's best friend.2/15

  I don't get it either! Pit bulls are nice dogs. I worked with a family that had a pit bull and that was the calmest tempered dog I'd ever seen. Petting that dog was actually a great calming technique for their girl who had autism and it never once struck out at her or anyone. 2/7

If they have to go THAT far out of their way to let the public know that their food is safe - not tasty, not nutritious, but just SAFE (the absolute bare minimum requirement for a food) - that wouldn't make me want to eat it. I'd say that this backfired pretty hard. I don't eat meat, but even if I did, I would way rather cuddle with a pitbull than eat chicken nuggets!2/8

  Pitbulls are pretty much the best family dog you could possibly want. It's a shame that a tiny portion of them are trained to be aggressive and that the media perpetuates a myth about such a wonderful breed.2/8
