Tips For Traveling With IBS

Traveling is something we all love to do.The excitement of exploring a new place, seeing new sights and meeting people is a thrilling experience.Unfortunately for those with IBS, their focus while traveling is usually on themselves, rather than their surroundings.However there are ways to travel and keep your IBS at bay.

Relax

Staying calm and reducing amounts of stress can go a long way to reduce flare ups of irritable bowel syndrome.By planning well, and staying calm in stressful situations you can effectively control your IBS.

Pack Well

Plan and pack everything you may need for your IBS.Will you need over the counter medications in addition to any prescriptions?Bring extra toilet paper or wipes in case there isn't any where you travel.Bring foods that you know won't irritate your IBS in case there aren't any others available.

Eat Well

Consume only the foods you know to be safe for your system.If a food is questionable, consider the risk you'd take to try it.Be sure to still have fun and try new foods, but maybe just a bite off a friend's plate.

Bring Medications

Make sure you have plenty of your prescription medications, as well as some extras just in case.Grab extra supplies of any over the counter meds you use in case they're not available where you are.

Stay Hydrated

Be sure to drink plenty of water and limit your consumption of soda, alcohol and caffeine.Bring water or filters if you will be in a place with limited water resources.

Locate the Bathrooms

Be sure to choose accommodations where you'll have your own bathroom.When on the road, keep in mind where the nearest rest stop is, or where you can stop for the bathroom.

Know the Language

If you're in a foreign country, practice key phrases to determine where bathrooms are.Bring a travel dictionary or phrasebook with you.

Travel Smart

If you are traveling by plane, choose an aisle seat that is near the restroom.If you go by train, locate the restroom on the car where you'll be sitting.Bring extra toilet paper or wipes just in case.

Have Fun

Don't let your IBS get in the way of having a nice time.If you do have a flare up, accept it and don't let it ruin your trip.By making the best of the situation, you can ease stress and find ways to still enjoy your vacation.

    If you have IBS or digestion problems it is a excellent idea to take a natural supplement that will improve your travels, rather then using a OTC which can ultimately do more harm then good. Some other suggestions while traveling is eating light, and be cautious against drinking lots of caffeinated drinks. People often pump themselves full of caffeine to stay awake on long trips. But caffeine can have a lot of negative side effects on the stomach such as heartburn, indigestion, and it can worsen diarrhea.

    Alcohol also should be avoided while traveling. Like caffeine, alcohol only perpetuates gastrointestinal problems, and can leave you feeling bloated and exhausted at the end of a long day of travel.
