Host, Gerry Barnaby - Hey, what’s happenin’, Barnaby here. Time for another HelloLife Moment, this one having to do with diabetes. You know there are a lot of myths out there about diabetes so who better to get to the truth than our Registered Dietician, Jessica Butcher. How are you doing?
Health Coach, Jessica Butcher, RD – Doin’ great, Barnaby. How are you?
Barnaby – Doin’ alright. So. Myth number one. If I have diabetes, I have to follow a diabetic diet – true or false?
Jessica – No, that’s not exactly true. Um, diabetics, just as us, have to follow the guidelines offered to us by the dietary guidelines. In those we all want to get a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and we’re all set.
Barnaby – Ok, well, I’m thinking, if I have diabetes, I can have as much healthy food as I want. True or false?
Jessica – Ooo, that one’s for sure false. You know, diabetics, all they really need is to keep an eye on is carbohydrates. And carbohydrates are certainly in healthy foods. I mean, think of your protein bars, your healthy breakfast bars, your fruits and vegetables. Those are all still going to have some carbohydrates. And that’s truly all we need to be counting if we’re diabetic.
Barnaby – Ok, so we’ve knocked down a couple of diabetic myths but there are many more to be dealt with right here on Hellolife.net. Because we’re all about matching your commitment to a healthy lifestyle. So keep checkin’ back!
