Can I really get a cold from going outside with wet hair?

There is a common belief among mothers and grandmothers that going outside with wet hair will cause someone to get a cold. This belief is mostly false, but does have a hint of truth to it.
Viruses cause colds, so going outside with wet hair would not give you a cold per say. That being said, stresses to the body (which could happen from getting chilled) causes cortisol release, which can weaken the immune system, and make you more susceptible to catching an illness such as a cold.
