HelloLife GuestHow do I know if I have Candidemia?
-

Dr. Jeff Chamberlain, MDCandidemia (Candida yeast in the blood stream) is always a serious and immediately life threatening condition. If you have Candidemia, then you will be extremely sick. There is no such thing as an asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic yeast infection in the blood stream. This typically only happens in people with extremely week immune systems (such as HIV/AIDS, or other immune suppression). Most people, who ask this question, ask it because they read about “Candidemia†on the internet.
There are some self-proclaimed experts out there who claim that almost all chronic and autoimmune diseases (i.e.- diabetes, HIV, heart disease, ADHD, autism, rheumatoid arthritis, etc…) come from “Candidemia.†They claim that overgrowth of Candida in the digestive tract causes the “gut to leak†allowing the Candida to go into the blood stream and cause chronic vague health problems. They often claim there is research backing this, but the truth is that there is not. To the contrary, the overwhelming majority of the research clearly shows that this is not true at all.
As a general rule, if someone claims they have “special knowledge†that most medical experts refuse to believe, but the person says there is a ton of “evidence†supporting it, then it is likely that that person is either trying to sell you something, does not know how to interpret research, or only looks at evidence that supports their point and refuses to look at all the evidence as a whole. It is important to keep an open mind about things, but it is also important to keep a critical mind.
Stay Healthy, Dr. Jeff
