Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Causes and Possible Treatment
The exact causes for the development of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) have yet to be determined. There are several factors that seem to increase the risk for the development of CFS including; genetics, inactivity, physical and psychological stresses, neuroticism, and introversion. However, the presence of one or all of these factors does not ensure development of CFS. The mind and body are united, any effect on the mind also effects the body and vice versa. One method of treatment for chronic fatigue syndrome is cognitive behavioral therapy.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: What is it?
Cognitive behavioral therapy attempts to decrease overall symptoms by means of managing those symptoms with psychological therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy is conducted through counseling. It challenges the individual patient perspectives and encourages open talking about the condition. There is a strong correlation with patients that are not psychologically healthy suffering increased chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: How does it work?
There still exists the need for more research and information about chronic fatigue syndrome. It is possible to address the psychological aspects created by the presence of chronic fatigue syndrome. It is also possible to cater this psychological advice to specific individuals. While addressing the psychological condition associated with chronic fatigue syndrome does not dismiss the physical aspects, it is one step that can be taken towards an increase in general health and positive outlook on life. A positive psychological outlook on the condition of chronic fatigue syndrome is associated with an overall decrease in symptoms.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Connections with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Chronic fatigue syndrome is associated with certain psychological difficulties. Cognitive behavioral therapy aims to discuss these difficulties. Cognitive behavioral therapy teaches the individual about chronic fatigue syndrome, it is responsible for the generation and maintenance of a positive attitude, and assists the individuals with goal formulation. The formulation of goals is necessary for achievement. Each achievement is a positive event. Each positive event leads to the formulation of new goals. This becomes a cyclic circumstance, with an overall goal enhancing a maximum quality of life with decreased symptoms and increased independence.
The Can-Do Attitude
Cognitive behavioral therapy teaches the can do attitude. Encouraging individuals with chronic fatigue syndrome to develop a positive outlook on life with achievable goals is essential for the maximization of overall quality of life. The can do attitude is important, not only for individuals with chronic fatigue syndrome, but all individuals. If you think you can do it, within reason, you probably can. If you think you can't do it, you can't.
