Russian Artist Tattooed his Cat!

By
From the The Scratchpad Blog Series

Hello and welcome once again to The Scratchpad. Here to bring you anything from the wildest stories to breakthroughs in research. This week we feature a Russian artist who decided to give his cat a tattoo!

Seriously, he really did give his cat a tattoo and it was one that matched his own. A tattoo that spanned from one shoulder to the other and read"Carpe Diem." A video of the tattooing procedure was posted online, went viral and is creating quite a stir. Some people are saying it is “cruel and disgusting.” Others go as far as accusing the artist of animal abuse.

Someone that supported him said, “People pierce their kids' ears and sign consent to let their kids get tattoos.

Tattoos on cats aren't that foreign of an idea either. People can get numeric tattoos on their cats, so they are able to be identified if they are lost. So, if you think about it that way...this tattoo could be seen as an identification tattoo, just on a larger scale. Maybe? But, that could be a stretch.

One thing that everyone should know is that the cat does not undergo any pain. In the video, it shows the cat being anaesthetized before the tattooing begins. So, that means he shouldn’t have felt any pain during the procedure. And, actually, he seemed fairly relaxed from what I saw (I was only able to watch a little bit of it because needles make me queasy).

If you’d like to watch the video, feel free.

Or check out this picture of the artist and his cat.

Carpe Diem. ;)

What do YOU think? Is it okay to give an animal a tattoo? Yea or Neigh?

What is our world coming to? This is abuse if ever there was abuse. This is a selfish male who desires attention. The cat had no choice. The cat should be taken from him. After all what will he decide to do next????

It's not on the same level as tail-cutting or ear-cropping or declawing like some pet owners do, but it still feels really wrong because the animal had no say in the matter.

At least he had the decency to use anesthesia. I'm not sure how I feel about the act itself, but my worry is that other (read: stupider) people will see this and be inspired to do it - and they won't be as careful...

I gave my stance on the issue at some length on the vetionx facebook fan page ( www.facebook.com/vetionx ), but in summary. I don't think this particular case is abusive. In fact, I think it's pretty cool. I don't think unskilled people should attempt to do this to their cats at home, but if someone idiot decided to go ahead and try it, I wouldn't blame this guy for their cruelty and stupidity.

wow it does look kind of cool when it's done but seeing the cat on it's back is not cool. I would never ever subject my pet to this type of procedure. It's gutsy!
