By

Asthma is a chronic disease of the respiratory system that affects a person's breathing. The bronchial tubes become inflamed or tightened and make it difficult for a person to breathe easily.

Why Do People Have Asthma?

Asthma can be caused by different environmental factors, such as over exposure to pollutants in the air, secondhand smoke, and allergens in the air. Many people who have asthma also have allergies . Another cause of asthma comes from people's genes. If one or both of a child's parents have asthma, a child is most likely to develop asthma. Children's Asthma should be treated with extra care.

Does Asthma Allow Exercise?

Many people are under the false impression that people with asthma cannot exercise or take part in any physical activity. People with asthma are better off exercising than not. Although some forms of exercise can trigger asthma symptoms, it is still a good idea to exercise. It helps the lungs take in air and function much better.

What Is Yoga?

Yoga is a form of mind-body exercise that uses meditation, stretches and poses that can aid in the improvement of flexibility, breathing and lowering stress. It has been practiced for thousands of years by people in India. Yoga requires a great deal of concentration and focus, which is why it helps with relaxation.

How Can Yoga Help Asthmatics?

One of the main focuses of yoga is on breathing techniques. Yoga can be helpful for people who are suffering with asthma to breathe easier. It can show people how to slow or regulate their breathing. Yoga is specifically known to help the lungs take in air and control it. Stress is a natural trigger of asthma symptoms, yoga can help relieve stress from the body. Yoga is a form of exercise and research shows that people with asthma benefit from all forms of exercise. Yoga is an ideal form of exercise for asthmatics because it is not as strenuous as other types of exercise and can be done anywhere. If someone feels the symptoms of asthma coming on they are able to use yoga techniques and meditation to regulate those symptoms.

Practice Different Yoga Techniques

Yoga can be learned through a specific yoga class at a workout facility or by reading books with illustrations and explanations of each pose and what its benefits are. An example of a helpful yoga position for asthmatics is the anuloma viloma technique. This is also called, the alternate nostril breathing technique. It practices breathing in with one nostril, holding it in and releasing it through the other nostril. This helps regulate breathing by concentrating on the flow of air through the air through the body. The corpse pose along with abdominal breathing are also helpful yoga techniques because both only focus on taking in air and feeling it in the abdominal area while lying flat on the floor with the body symmetrical. Yoga instructors may be able to offer more poses that are especially helpful for asthmatics and breathing easily. It is important for people with yoga to continually exercise, despite their condition. Including yoga in an exercise routine along with a well balanced diet can help relieve asthma signs and symptoms.
