Hi am just sick of this disease, have been on medication for years, usually in control, but now out of breath for 14days, on steroids, antibiotics, etc thought i was on the mend and went outside for a short stroll and out of breath again, does anyone know if there is a gene that triggers it. any help would be gratefully received.

Hello m. I am so sorry for all that you've been through with your asthma. I am no doctor, but just doing some quick research on the web I found out that asthma can be genetic...but it can also not be. So no clear answer :/

As for is there is a particular gene that causes it? well, i learned that it can be inherited if some of your family members has it...and if that's the case maybe they have a certain gene that's linked to asthma. Do you have family members with asthma? I hope you start feeling better!

I've gotten 'exacerbations' (doctor/nurse term) at random intervals since '06, after staying in a mold-filled motel room for two days. And I can't seem to find any rhyme nor reason to the timing. Two were in Spring, one Autumn, one Winter. I've also been thru the Advair/Spiriva/Albuterol/prednisone 'treatment' protocol. My latest med is Duoneb...ipratropium&albuterol. Let's see how long it works.
However, the real start of my COPD was after I had a coronary artery unclogged/stented, and the docs(quacks?) virtually FORCED me onto statins-Zocor. Zocor definitely has to take the major blame for my condition. It weakend every single muscle in my entire body, caused cramps in my hands and feet, decreased my vision and memory, and then everyone knows the doctors keep VERY close watch on your liver. They must protect themselves--from malpractice if they kill your liver-- AT YOUR EXPENSE, mustn't they? Ever get those odd, angry, looks when you ask to see you latest chest X-ray, or the longform of your liver-blood function test?
